I am staying in Liverpool this week and need to pick up a few small boat things - the sort of things you really need to look at to choose size and type.

I drove to the Mailspeed Marine shop in Warrington today - it is closed up! Have they gone out of business ?

Where is my nearest alternative ? I remember a bloke on a barge in the marina with a modest selction of stuff. But I really need somewhere a bit bigger. Any ideas ? Or has the internet killed them all off?

The barge, in the marina, Steve Roberts, carries more stock these days and might carry what you are after, give them a ring 01517078300. If you go call in for a coffee, or something stronger.

I don't have recent first-hand experience of the barge but friends of mine who berth in Liverpool marina say that he carries a remarkable inventory.

Mailspeed Warrington has, regretfully, gone. There is still a branch in the south and their mail-order business is still going but no longer a place in the north west to have a good, old fashioned brouse around.

It looks like they are in terminal demise. The nearest chandlery to my boat sells Cruiser Uno at £87 for 3 litres. Much as I'd like support the local business etc etc, I paid £66 for the same thing, delivered to my door. purchased from an internet chandlery site (not e-bay). I know in the overall cost of running a boat this is small change but I work hard for my money and I don't like to think that I'm being ripped off.

Also consider Liverpool Power Boats in Bootle - about 15 mins drive from the marina.

Dave.

Bit of a hike from Liverpool, but not so bad (just past Preston) are Bridge House Marina, Nateby, near Garstang, which is not bad (best in area, proper boaty stuff as well as canalish). And near there is Glasson Marina, which is small but helpful and has a fair selection of bits'n bobs.

Almost forgot there is a handy little chandlery, surprisingly well stocked at Douglas boat yard Nr Southport.

Try Reliance Marine in West Kirby if he is to expensive haggle the price down.
