Exactly as the title says..

I have taken the mast down (Moody s38 masthead rig with twin spreaders) after 20 years - new shrouds are currently being made.

Removing the first chain plate I found the fixings to be in surprisingly good condition... Any crevice corrosion in the bolts looks quite superficial and could be polished out..

Then I thought that since the mast is down I should replace the bolts but I've not managed to find a source for them yet... Any suggestions welcome..

. . . It looks like Anglia Stainless have a nice looking website now . . .

Yes but you can't order on-line like some.
You have to speak to a human.

The other mysterious thing about Anglia Stainless, is they have about the best range of bronze fasteners. I think I would amend my company's name. to be a bit more revealing.

Socket head countersunk heads (allen key type dimple) appear to be more easily available. Allcap just got back to me saying something like that.

I can't find anything about head strength for socket head vs the slotted head.

That is because they took over Combwich Enterprises who were the premier source for bronze fastenings (mostly from the US) in this country.

The chain plate bolts (similar size) on my new Bavaria are socket head.

Westfield Fastners have a large range of A4 Stainless Fastners. I have used them a good few times and the service has been very good

Wow....I had been rather lost without C P Fastenings... So far AllCap have come back with Socket cap countersunk but I'm waiting for a price. M L UK in Portsmouth look rather handy though...

Seems like slotted are nowhere near as available as socket head are... Also, it's not so easy finding half threaded...I assume this was to reduce any crevice corrosion in the event of water ingress.

I'm hoping to avoid any water ingress but still want to aim to replace like for like..

Fully threaded = Screw "Half Threaded" = Bolt

The OP could make his own from threaded rod with nuts at each end.

When I did the same job as the OP on my boat I bought bolts that didn't have enough thread length and used a die to cut the extra. A2 stainless would be good enough IMO.

I guess I could make my own. . I've got dies on board up to about M24 (keel stud size).

I just seem to have very little time these days.

Straight rod, as you say, would also suffice.... But since the chain plates are drilled for countersunk head, that's what I wanted to get for a nice neat finish.

16 bolts needed and for the sake of a few pounds I'm still looking for A4-90....

I think AllCap in Gloucester will come up with them but I'm interested in the place in Portsmouth just because it's so close.

Jim - A big thank you.

Allcap could get them.. A2A4 also called back rather quick and could do the same.

I filled in my details on the M L UK website just now and within 2 minutes somebody called back to say they had them on the shelf just a couple of miles from the boat!

I think I'll be getting 80mm and 90mm and seeing which fits best. The original 80mm, although being in situ for 20 years were not quite long enough for a locknut.

Thanks all for your suggestions.
