Brilliant. Looks like it was efficient too, with the whole carriage slung on horizontal tracks.

I've been under one on the Kiel Canal which, as well as the underslung car, has a railway track across the high gantry. To get the trains up to such a great height (trains aren't good at steep slopes) they have a huge elevated spiral of track.

It's magnificent, but it looks like a heck of a lot of metal to move a rather little platform.

I wonder if a Millau-proportioned bridge would add to, or detract from, the scenic appeal of the Sandbanks harbour entrance!
