I have an electronic chain counter (MZ Electronics) fitted at the helm and have had problems with it recently. I managed to get the factory to send me a recalibration manual (all in italian) so the thing now finally works properly.

I do however have 2 questions

Q1) In the calibration/setup menu it asks for the chain diameter! this may sound stupid, but how do I measure the chain diameter? around each link? the distance between each link? the thinkness of each link? not too sure!

Q2) Does anyone know how a chain counter measures how much rode you "let go"? I assume that all cahin counters work on a similar principle?

TIA.

When my chain counter (quick) was installed by supplier they forgot to calibrate ( I have found this when we had anchoring difficulties) so I did it by myself.

One information I had to put in was the diameter or circle ( I am not sure if this is correct word) of the wheel of the windlass. I think it was wheel circle. Than we tested it and now measurement is OK. There is 100m of chain on our boat in accuracy is within 5% or so.

I hope that this helps,

Slavko
