Those Russian billionaires - what will they build next? Makes a change from a dark blue hull I suppose. What is it - a Perini Navi?
 
Very impressive - she looks the business for sure.
She is very 'angular' in comparison to previous warship designs - is this for when in Stealth mode, to reduce the apparent radar signature, like the very angular Stealth bombers?

Yes indeed. I retired from VT when she was first started and it is simply wonderful to see her at sea and performing so well. Brought tears to my eyes to see her creaming through the water on TV last night. Just superb.... Still being worked up to maximum capability though I guess and indeed it will be good when she gets her full armoury....

Somehow I guessed that the footage of the missile launches supposedly during the training exercise was archive material and this proves it. I thought the whole point of a destroyer was to protect a task force/convoy from air attack using her missile system. So, this does suggest that Daring is, for the timebeing, useful for little more than recruitment as various sea festivals/shows around the coast.

Did you see the bit when her computer systems froze during the exercise? Had that been real life, then at least one of the vessels in the task force would have been sunk (even if Daring's missile system had been up and running). I hope they get that fixed too!
 
Was surprised not to hear a mention of her anti-submarine capability - rather important I think.
In '49 sonobuoys could be deployed by air; as an O/D Scribe in Captain's Office, I saw all the 'Top Secret' plans whilst on Retard Party then, these were given or flogged to the Ruskies some ten years later by a CPO I believe.

As I commented at the time - it gives a new meaning to 'blue screen of death'. Fortunately their systems didn't seem to be Windows based.

Re the stark angular styling of the Stealth bomber - I wonder if they sought inspiration from the humble wee stink bug when designing it?

We have these green bugs here - I wonder if there is any connection between their low radar signature shape and predators like bats who have radar?
Although the bats here probably only eat much smaller critters like mosquitoes.
