CG66

The pdf version of the form says they will send a reminder when the two years is a month away.
I recall having recieved one email reminder quite some time ago . So perhaps my two years was almost up. It's easy to do on line and you dont have to answer all the questions. I have not included a photo on my boat as I do not have an image that is a small enough file size.

I just tried checking my details and they were still all there.

I put my details on some months ago. No problem except for the photo upload. Tried several pics and formats and even used "gimp" to get the file size down. Eventually had to give up with the picture. When I phoned them about it the lady said they had some problems with the site and to just email a pic and they will put it on. So I did, and they did!

Your details default to delete after a couple of years unless you reconfirm. It stops their records being out of date which obviously could be dangerous in the event of an emergency

I think it must be longer than that, it is nearly 3 years ago when I last updated, didn't get an email reminder this time.

Anyway, thanks for the reminder.

Two years according to their website, extract and link below . From the wording which I have highlighted it would suggest that now you do not get a reminder despite what it may say on a PDF and it is up to each owner to update their information regularly.

What happens once you have registered your details
When you register, your details are entered in the CG66 database and kept on record for two years. The information is only used for search and rescue and safety purposes. After two years, you'll need to update your details or they will be removed from the database.

If the details of your vessel or your contact details change, update your details in the CG66 database so the coastguard has the correct information. If you dispose of your vessel, let your local MRCC know.

When you register, you have to provide contact details for someone on shore. Make sure this person knows that you have registered your boat with the coastguard. Provide them with details of the MRCC where you registered your CG66 so they can contact the coastguard if they have any concerns for your safety.

thanks for the extra information, but from experience it is longer than two years.

Apparently the length of time after the 2 years when your records are deleted is dependent on how fastidious is the person who deals with CG66 at the local station where your records are held.As you cannot guarantee that they will be there isn't it better to be proactive.

It would be more sensible to allow you to delete your own, this way they could be anything up to two years out of date - one boat I sold in the summer of 2012 and the other August this year. Any current check will put them to me and I won't be able to help much.

Suspect your 2012 is already delisted. They do ask you to amend your details when they occur and selling and buying would presumably come under this heading ; just be a little proactive or would you rather correct the information over the radio when you are in trouble. When we got caught out a couple of years ago the Coastguard passed our CG66 info immediately to the lifeboat . Would have looked more than a little silly if I had recently painted the hull yellow and not amended my details.

Yep, now I know they no longer send out email reminders, I will set-up a calendar reminder.
