Despite meticulous clealiness, I have found "bits" in my Novatech and Cetop varnish.

Sikkens website warns that "outgassing" of resins in plywood during warm weather can cause this but there is no warning on the tin.

Anybody else had problems?

I've used Sikkens Cetol HLS and Filter 7, there are "bits" in the finish, it's not as smooth as varnish. I've also used the Cetol Marine varnish, this was much more like, err, varnish! ie smoother.

The Sikkens website suggests that the ambient temperature influences the outgassing.

Sikkens faqs;-

<span style="color:red">"What causes blister formation in coatings?

Blisters in any coating form as the result of isolated areas of poor/insufficient adhesion of the coating to the surface beneath.

This phenomenon occurs especially in warm and sunny weather, and is often related to the expansion of air in the wood pores, the gassing of gums or resin, or the evaporation of trapped moisture, which pushes the coating film away, shortly after application." </span>

What was it when you were applying the coats?
