Thanks for the replies, didn't realise it could be such an emotive subject but that's the forum for you. I did notice Pinnacle that on the site you sent us to it states that UTC is approx. the same as GMT, to me that sounded a little tongue in cheek.

You should take it as a complement to your pathetic little country that the rest of the world allowed UTC to be approximately, similar, almost etc. the same as GMT. The "mean" presumably denotes some inaccuracy or perhaps refers to the parsimonious nature of your countrymen.
Me, I'm happy to take a sunsight at its zenith and call that 12.00.
