Centurion 32 by Wauiquiez

l would love it if anyone had some advice on the use of the trim-tab on these boats.

Nathan
If you still have one then you are the first person I've heard of who has.

We have a Centurion built in about 71/72 and there is no sign that the trim was ever installed

I had one on K. but when I sold her to my son almost the first thing he did was to glass in the trim-tab! I never found it did anything except perhaps to neutralise the helm under power.

Request for information on the Centurion 32
Just bought a 1973 Centurion 32. If anyone has information of any kind in regard to building specs, experience etc, or any web sites where I can obtain such info please send info

In August 2001 I wrote: 'This elegant Holman & Pye design from 1969 is now one of the most sought after cruiser racers of the period. Her heavy construction and excellent finish mean she has lasted well and her good manners, combined with sprightly windward performance make her a rewarding fast cruiser for both experienced and novice sailors.'

I have no reason to change my view now.

Some years ago, when I was looking for a 1970s cruiser racer she was top of my wish list but available examples were always too expensive (priced towards Contessa 32s). In retrospect I have always regretted not buying one. In the end I went for a Pionier 10 which was an excellent boat in many ways and much cheaper but she did not have the quality or handling of the Wauquiez (Vo-key-ai, by the way).

Trim tabs

The trim tab was an IOR experiment designed to increase windward performance without incuring a rating penalty (improved righting moment without increasing depth or ballast ratio). IOR banned them and they had to be immobilised for racing.
