Centre Cockpit Boat Advice

I read this post @ lunch time today & thought I'd reply when I got home, to the effect that there are a no of well thought of Moody centre cockpit boats, but I can see others have already said the same! Angus Primrose designed a number in 70s & v early 80s & Bill Dixon developed some further thereafter and given age, many may now be in your price range. If you want to have a summary of possible Moody boats, there is a link on the Moody/Premier web site, or better still via the Moody Owners Association site, where you could even canvas opinion from owners (tho like previous posters comments, these may be a little partial!)

Also the Trident boats - Warrior 35 (centre cockpit), Voyager 35(pilot house), Challenger 35 (aft cockpit). The cockpit on the Warrior is large and deep and great for kids, and with a good cover makes an extra cabin in harbour.

Forecabin is large and airy, aft cabin is small. I liveaboard but wouldn't want to try sharing it with young kids!

Having an old-style walk-through to the aft cabin eg Westerly 33 means you don't have to put up with a high shallow cockpit.

Moody Halberdier..Pre Angus Primrose boats from the late 60 early 70s. Moodys first GRP boats. Hugely built ketch generally fetch £35-45k. Center cockpit with half wheelhouse secure on deck with 6inch bulwarks.

Easy action and pretty difficult to get wet water on the fore deck, big secure wheelhouse with good access to the engine, aft cabin with its own heads.

Take a look at the web site below.

All best Nick

Don't listen to 'em, seperate aft cabin is what you want- with round bilge steel hull and... Mine just happens... Hehehe. Regarding the exposure and wetness factor, I am planning on putting dodgers/lines on the cockpit coaming- ie inboard of the toerail.
My boat is based on an enlarged Seal 28, and it looks very similar to a M33 (it's by Bill D also), so I wonder how those sail (not had mine out yet).

How about a Maxi (95?) which has a small aft cabin, but you'd never know unless you looked closely- very slimline. Also has a good layout- proper heads compartment, engine under saloon table, so access great, and loads of storage under cockpit.

Personally though, I don't like centre cockpits, and want to sell for a smaller aft cockpit boat- but then I am usually single handing and live alone, so the layout is pointless to me.
