Centaur prices

Well I think there's plenty wrong with holes in a boat !

My Carter 30 was hardly a junker, but had 7 seacocks which the previous owner had ignored; it was like the Forth bridge chasing them around, there was always one giving trouble.

Combined with the mentions of lightning strikes blowing seacocks - and logs, through hull sounders etc - straight out of the bottom, and those were two of many reasons I yearned for my Anderson - and bought her back.

Its alright for you dinghies have no need for sea cocks .

Dont want to p--s on Dylan's parade but having some experience of the Thurso / Scrabster area I would want something a bit bigger than a small centaur to do the trip . Trust me tides and seas on this coast take no prisoners.

I completely agree that the tides and sea take no prisoners but a well found boat sensibly sailed...............

You really don't get the concept at all do you! ;)

if you are out in the cockpit sailing then going below is always cosy & warm by comparison & you may even take your oilies off if staying below. Expensive, complicated, unreliable & battery eating heaters just do not figure in that scenario.

If the redoubtable Dylan does go all the way north he will be stopping here: I was pinned in here for three days, in August, as a very wet and very cold gale went through. I have no heat source other than the flowerpots on the meths stove and candles. It did get very cold, very damp and very miserable. (No power on the quay on the Fair Isle)

Its worth the trip to Fair Isle: amazing place. A bit exposed with a few rather intimidating rocks around it

Nowt, if you are prepared to take the cost of it - including its maintenance & the loss of sailing time while you wait for all the bits to be working. For permanent marina dwellers it is an essential part of the holiday cottage experience.

Cranky old man!

PS happy new year!

There is a centaur for sale in cardiff marina, looks in good condition, in the water so floats ok. Marina reckons they want offers around £3000.

One problem....

No mast or rigging. Maybe you could find an unwanted mast.

thanks S

too much money...and replacing the mast would cost as much as the boat

mast transport is also a wonderful challenge

I wonder where the old mast got to?

do Centaurs lose masts as well as keels?

D

Not sure we're the mast went, shame as the rest of the boat looks ok

thank you Steve,

just called them

firm 3K

I notice that the rudder stock has already been shifted up in preparation for the installation of the outboard

so one problem solved

it has the old MD in it

so the death of the engine is just around the corner

no rigging or sails at all

I do love the optimism

the inside looks pretty good though I have to say and for a person who wantas a live-aboard not a bad deal

when Jill kicks me out on groundsof insanity then I shall buy an old centaur and live on it as a yachting hermit

how on earth did she get separated from the rigging

Could be, I am not a spotter. The marina girl just said it was a westerley. Looks similar though

the stern is wrong

the woman on the phone said it was a centaur

I am not sure they take brokerage very seriously

the boat looks in great nick for 3K though

31 footer with a functioning engine but no rig for 3K

if I can find a Centaur in such good cosmetic nick but with a rig and a jiggered engine I will be well pleased

At that price for a boat that size "just" put a junk rig on her.

let me get this right

make a mast, strengthen the hull and cabin top to take the additional pressure, design the sail, make the sail, work out the rigging

the word "just" is a slippery one

however, it does seem in great nick for the price

I know that centaur I am after is calling out to me

I just walked past it again, it is longer than 26ft.

The marina boatyard are moving all the boats so apartment building work can start. Maybe it lost the mast and has been in storage for a while. They probably need to get rid of it now there is nowhere to park it.
