CE document for a 2001 rib Q

only for a Greek registrered craft the tender is not allowed to be further than 1nm from mothership else a serious fine is due. Hence the reason for this (pointless) exercise

cheers

I know absolutely nothing about Greek law, but common sense would suggest it was your tender only once installed and the old one removed. Distance is zero then. I suppose there might be a risk of trouble for launching a non CE dinghy.

Hm,

well, seems that the port authorities treat a 10m or a 20m boat the same as 3m tender.
They insist they need a CE doc with the following:
HIN
engine serial, size/power
people allowed
weights, etc.

Now I do have the HIN riveted on the hull and on the sale doc

CE label on the rib with model SEASPORT 3.20 JET
Design category C
weight acceptable (not the right term but you get the idea...) =< 350kg
persons =< 4
tube pressure 0.17bar
and a note it conforms to ISO 6185 (Part 3/VII) [whatever that means, haven't googled it].

So basically I'm missing engine model and serial number as well as engine power. They seem v.keen on that.
Since AVON is no more, there's no way I could get exactly what they want, nor is something the dealer can provide.
To an extent explains why most of the ribs on sale around here are sold as is with no docs and no standalone licence.
Of course I could do that as well, but then if port authorities find you more than a mile from mothership, you get a nice big fat fine (inxs of 500euro) and I'm not keen to pay them anything, they're not worth what they get from me as it stands...

I'll pursue it a bit further and then decide.

cheers

Hello Vas, the engine serial number is not required on a Declaration of Conformity. I can show you where to prove this to the Greek Authorities in their own language. If you go here http://eur-lex.europa.eu/legal-content/EN/TXT/?uri=CELEX:32013L0053 you will find the full text of the Recreational Craft Directive. If you click on the English version (En) and scroll down to ANNEX IV This is where you will find listed all the information required on a Declaration of Conformity. If you then click on the El (Ellas) version you will open the Greek text.

Scroll down to the same place and copy and paste to the Authority that is asking for the engine serial number. If they refuse to allow a certified product, which this boat clearly is, in to Greece then they are in breach of EU regulations. You can tell them that they are asking for more than EU requires and that Jan Mayerhoeffer at EU Commission will hear about it if they don't let a RCD-compliant boat into Greece. That normally does the trick.

thank you very much!

I had already downloaded 2013.53, dozed off reading before reaching p37

You'll be surprised how many times local "authorities" demand more than they are allowed (or obliged to).
Not surprising considering all the fines GR has to pay for non compliance with various directives, only this time they are going the other way round.

I've decided to buy the rib anyway, and armed with all these docs I'll pay them a visit and see what I manage. I'll keep you posted (probably May-June).

again many thanks!

The problem is not compliance with the RCD but for registration purposes. Greece is not the only state that requires this, Portugal is another one and no doubt you will find many more in the EU. Many also use the RCD categories for licencing purposes as a basis for how and where the boat can be used - something that was never the intention of the RDC.

Thankfully in the UK we have avoided all that nonsense.

last time there I found that the paperwork in an envelope with 200 euro in the middle solved it all very smoothly. stamped and out gain in record time. :)

yes, will work sometimes with the "right" person.
with the "wrong" person, you may end up in the court! tbh, I'm too scared to embark in such ordeal for a 3.2m rib.

I'll go by the book and see how it goes...

me again, reviving a year old thread!

well, rib was fine on mother ship last summer, no docs, no name, just invisible. Used it a couple of times, but it was due to taking too long in order to get the lifting sorted (and then the carbs sorted...) but it's fine now.
Time to renew one of the half dozen docs I need for the boat so paid another visit to the marine solicitor that helped me through the buying process back in 2011.
Armed with all the knowledge gained in this thread explained the whole thing, showed him the docs (wasn't even keen at looking at them) and ...I got absolutely nothing!

Guy was confident that without the magic non-existent paper there's no luck with port authorities. Has gone through that before and not even keen at trying again.
He also explained that beleive it or not, carrying the jetrib on the bathing platform is legal and no-one is going to ask for any docs, IF however the men in blue with their rib stop me using it, I'm going to get a nice fat fine, the 1nm rule doesn't apply with a 83hp engine, it's' just for paddle powered tenders apparently :(

Shocked, I asked what else I could do, and he simply told me to use one of the various online "dealers"/companies that register boats in NL, BE, UK, DE, wherever else and email the details with the HIN and get a nice new flag/name/docs for 200euro or thereabouts the next day or something like that...

I asked if that's legal and if that would keep the local authorities happy, and he's positive.
He explained that all his customers with jetribs or other large engined tenders use this trick now for years down here. Further there's no conflict with the Greek registered mothership, go figure.

So, I'm giving up on our local beaurocracy and considering I'd like to use the tender without the fear of the grey ribs with the two blue lines on the side, what does the panel think and is there a particular company/site/whatever that you would suggest?
and BTW, has anyone done such a thing before?

cheers

Vas, I can’t really add anything. My only Greek boating experience is on a Sunsail yacht. They all tow tenders. Ours was over 3m, with a 6hp outboard. The tenders can get moved around the yachts as they get damaged over the season. I doubt any of the yachts carry any docs. I was not given any info when we were there. My daughter is back out at Lefkas, and I can get her to ask the question of the Sunsail Manager?

thanks P.,

however, I'm pretty sure she's got more interesting things to do on her vacations :D
It't clear that the grey ribs target greek flagged boats and preferably private owned ones, wont bother checking anything with a well known sticker on it's bow for sure. So, doubt you'll get anything out such a question.

I'm curious if anyone has used such a service (have to admit didn't know they exist) and if anyone can recommend such a company.

let's see how this develops!

cheers
