Modern alternators don't have key ways on shaft so if running CCW nut loosens and pulleys slip . Supplier starter and alternator co told me to use impact socket gun . Did so and nut screwed off just the same . So how do I do it ? Cut a new key way . Or is there another way . Tighter impact just bend the fan disc so I packed hollow its washers . Still did not work
Frustrated

Do many engines run counter clockwise?

After years of working on cars and a couple of boat engines I thought that clockwise was fairly universal so alternator pulleys coming loose is not something I'm familiar with. Either way, as Vic says, Loctite will sort it.

This I.s my second alternator faces engine so runs CCW

The output flange of my PRM gearbox is held on with a right hand nut and that can go CW or CCW depending on forward of astern direction. It uses a full metal lock nut so a nylock nut may also be OK.

Some alternators are fitted with freewheeling pulleys, probably not the OP's problem but something to bear in mind

Several solutions - none will attract your approbation.

Change the alternator mounting, so it's the right way round.
Recut the pulley thread for a LH one.
Weld it on (though might adversely affect windings).
Do without a 2nd, mis-mounted alternator.

Cyano-acrylic locking compounds are unlikely to work and I'd not bet on a tab washer (or a Nyloc nut).
