Our 10 year old cameras have died.

We have mains power to a jetty, and phoneline with good speeds from an adjacent building about 30yds away.

What recommendations for a waterproof camera that can

1 pan, tilt and zoom

2 be addressable by member's smart phones

3 save video to the cloud OR to a local CCTV recorder

Would it be possible to have another camera on a boat nearby using the same wifi system ?

We are aware of the limits that CCTV users must accept over the area in view, so perhaps

4 sector blocking.

TIA

For you to have CCTV installed at your club you have to have very tight access restrictions to the camera feeds, so you would be severely breaching data protection laws to allow members to have access to the video, this is either live or recorded. Even members having on their own on their boat is a big issue if it over looks anything else as im assuming that its a club mooring and not their own property.

Also don’t even think about any form of audio

Many clubs have their CCTV policy on their web sites, may be worth a quick read.

Moorings are the property of the members inc, maintenance. The club just allocates positions within our licensed area and owns the pontoons and the beach.

There are thousands of CCTV installations looking out over the sea; we want ours to ct as a remote viewer for security and curiosity reasons.

The club has a solid GDPR policy to which all the members sign up.

Good point about CCTV policies; will check other clubs

meanwhile ... back in the real world ... there are publicly accessible live webcams freely available on the internet, which capture public streets and roads, with no sanction from the ICO, if the OP was correct in his reading of the regulations, these would not exist eg:

Farson Digital Watercams - Hi-def webcam on River Severn, at Bewdley

If the draconian regualtations suggested by the OP actually finctioned as suggested, even car dash cams would be highly illegal .. and yet almost everyone has one, and the police are more than happy to appeal for dashcam evidence etc which, if it truly was "a big issue" you would no expect the police to condone it now would you?

Although you state "Even members having on their own on their boat is a big issue if it over looks anything else" but, in practice, it isn't as there has yet to be a single prosecution by the ICO, let alone a succesful prosecution, so it isn't an issue at all. So carry on as you were ... take it with a very large pinch of salt.

The regs are the regs, if your not sure read them. They don’t apply to domestic use but do to commercial properties which include sailing clubs, and do have to be registered with ICO, we are as a club just going through this as it’s the correct thing to do and don’t wish to risk significant fines even if they never come, our club tries to keep its standards high And don’t really care if others are not bothered.

it may not be the ICO that goes after you but a single person who gets upset, finds out your not registered and then sues you.

regarding the Farson Digital Watercams and many others, please read their privacy policies, you will see that they are compliant with ICO and registered CCTV

I bet you're fun at parties.

Your position is nonsensical and contradictory. You state that it would be a massive breach of data protection laws to allow members to see the feed, yet you seem unable to see the significant gap between that position and the myriad of publicly accessible webcams, that operate quite within the law showing both public and private spaces, such as the one I linked.

A simple payment to the ICO, slap a privacy policy up, job done. Nothign illegal, no one is going to get sued.

When you apply to IOC you have to declare what you are doing and why, i agree with you on the how, it’s what I said, not doing it is the issue I tried to point out and explain to the OP, how would you deal with club members who have specifically opted out of GDPR and then make their pictures publicly available, not to mention children at the club.

suggest you go and get film camera, stand in the street and just film, i suggest that you would not be there for long before Mr Plod came along and had a chat

Further proof that you have no clue what you are talking about.

Do you know what you can film in a public place? Absolutely anything and anyone.

You know what you can do with those photos? Absolutely anything you like, put them on the internet, whatever.

You know what the police or anyone else can do about it? Absolutely nothing.

There is NO expectation of privacy in a public place, anyone can film in a public place and the Police have no say in the matter.

I suggest you read the ACPOguidance letter that was sent out to chief constables here: https://www.theiac.org.uk/resourcesnew/filming-in-public/ACPO_Guidance_PhotographsPublicPlaces.pdf
