Ccoitus etc "scuttlebut"

Re: Ccoitus etc \"scuttlebut\"

quite so chris. I think tho that if you have a reasonable grasp of the lingo (as you and many do of course) it is fairly easy to detect/convey mood.

General form is "if in doubt - anglicise" with words lifted from other languages. So if using English in the rest of the prose it's "crocuses" (not croci) and forums not fora. Having a stab at the Latin declension is arcane within English grammar, and these days may merely indicate that the author is a little too proud of their Latin O-level.

Re: Ccoitus etc \"scuttlebut\"

I was pleased when the lounge was launched and occassionally suggested that it was the most appropriate place for some (what was often a series) flippant postings and got a number of replies regarding thought police etc and that it is the variety of postings that makes this forum so interesting.

After a few years I have to agree that the majority are intesting and the majority post on the appropriate forum. The ybw moderator is not heavy handed but does intervene in extreme cases. Some of the more flipant posts are aften made by very knowledgeable people who often make good contributions on other subjects. Some are very witty.

In the end I have come to the conclusion that self policing does work any post that strays too far will receive some adverse comments and there must be space for differences of opinions. I have often seen many posts criticising any blunt/rude reply to a newbee posting.

The real answer to most of the complainants is for them to post more relevant posts to the appropriate forum themselves leaving those posts that they would complain against becoming an even smaller minority.

Don't worry you soon learn to skip some posts in the same way that I never to bother to read any posts by Sailfree!!!

Cause I wrote them!!
