Catfisher 28 mizzen mast sheet

I saw an advert recently with a double block on each stern, and a double ended sheet (i.e. fastened at the boom end,) down to the block, up to the boom end, down again to the block and thence to a cleat.

Thats similar to how mine was rigged, however if I look around at other boats with a mizzen they are more like how alahol2 describes. Should a mizzen be self tacking like the main? If so then what is described above is overkill.

Usually yes. I think two separate sheets could be better for some uses like a riding sail, or trimming the angle at which you sit when hove to, but I used our mizzen on Kindred Spirit for both these things and didn't find the single mizzen sheet to be a problem.

I m not sure you would get a suitable lead to a central block on the stern of the Catfisher as the Mizzen sits so far aft. Either need a single block to a Bumpkin mounted aft amidships or sheets to each of the sterns.
