Caterpillar Servicing

Caterpillar engines rarely need specilist servicing , routine service can be done by any competent engineer or even yoursself, not really different to any diesel engine.
We have two cat 425-3208's I suspect yours are 375's

You obviously don’t know the design of the 3116/3126 unit injector set up or how to adjust the valve clearance, set up tools are required. The 3208 is a simple 1950s design originally for a forklift , it has no resembling features to the more modern cat engines at all.

Bang on, on the HP :)

It would be my first time trying to service this size and type of engine. The closest I'd come to it was the little one in our narrowboat a few years back.

As these haven't been done in 7 years, I'm having the coolant done as well.
As part of the hassle is dealing with fluids disposal as well, I'd like to learn from a proper engineer this time, as well as make sure they're ok with some of those little jobs I don't know about being looked at.

I did the same went right through the engines. cat antifreeze isn't cheap and you need alot, I got mine from www.bradechem.com. change all filters, belts, impellers, air cleaners, engine anodes all forteen www.anodesdirect.co.uk ), drain the injector pump sump. - Water can collect there
If you need service schedules are part numbers PM me

On a slight side note, regarding engine anodes. I bought mine from Boatzincs.com in America and even with shipping were a lot cheaper than anywhere in the UK. They were also incredibly efficient and delivery from order was about a week. And that was to Northern Ireland, which often can be tricky on delivery.

I know this relates to the truck installations rather than marine but Adept Ape on Youtube I think is a very knowledgable CAT engineer in the US and goes into lots of detail on all kinds of CAT engines, 3208, 3216 etc included. My 3126B's with the HEUI system have a few quirks but aren't rocket science.

I also bought my pencil anodes and other from Boatzincs in the US. I used to bring mine back in my carry-on. Never an issue.
