Catching fish at anchor?

Is there anything down there this time of year? Not much going on so I might hole up somewhere like Stangate in the Medway for a day or two, is there any point dropping a hook or 2 over the side? What bait might work?

Nothing to do with sport, we're talking free protein here

Ta, sounds tasty Ragworm might be a bit of a problem though, might have to go a bit more.... household Prob buy a bag of frozen prawns before heading off, otherwise , hmm, bacon or cheese. Or banana. Haven't really thought this through much yet....

Black lugworm works well for flatties if casting. If dropping then mussel tied on with thin elastic is the dogs' wotnots. That's what I found to wrok here. Black lug freezes well and can be refrozen a couple of times.

If you can get to a weedy beach try scratching in the shallows for soft crab for bait.

I normally used size 2 hooks for flatties but I've had a few on 4/0 hooks.

nope

15h outboard strapped to the back of the boat, should be fun down the river with a 10t boat and a a feisty easterly
But bigger picture living aboard, kilner bottles work really well, big pot of stew and they will keep it good in the fridge for many days, half hour in the pressure cooker I've had delicious atlantic tuna 9 months later. So if there's fish to be had down there then getting them canned in a locker free is a pastime worth investigating
Might be some work on the go though so need fishing might take a step back, finding a cheap mooring near a train station is creeping further up the to do list

Don't let that stop any catching and preserving fish at anchor chat though who else does that?

We do but then I'm an angler first, sailor second.

As others have said you might get a flounder or a dab but at the moment water temps are 4-6 degrees below where they should be at this time of year and the fishing is extremely slow. Uncooked prawns work well for flatfish if the crabs don't get them first, although at present even the crabs haven't really returned to the shore in any great numbers because of aforementioned low temps.

Prob best to cook the prawns, at the mo ....
