Hi I have recently taken ownership (part) of a 30 ft open bridgedeck catamaran and need advice on how to moor it correctly on the swing mooring. We have run a line from each bow to the mooring bouy but find that they keep on getting tangled around the chain. Are we leaving the lines too long, how do we make a mooring bridle?
Does anyone know where we can get suitable netting for the foredeck trampoline (about 4m x 3.5m)?
Cheers
Simon

use nylon for the mooring line, it floats, if it still tangles around the chain i guess it's too long

have a mooring bouy with a swivel down the bottom

i also use a second top swivel, altough some folks on this forum will think they are not strong enough, i guess it depends on how exposed your mooring is / how paranoid you wana be

for pick up, i use a float with a pick up line at the top

netting is ok, but a trampoline is much more comfortable to lay on, that's why you bought the boat yes ??

I have some spare strong fishnetting I bought to fill in the outrigger spaces.
PM me and I'll measure it!

G'day Hawkcat, welcome to the forums with this your first posting.

We use a bridle, a single line will be difficult to tangle, ours is permanently rigged, also used when the anchor is deployed, stops her swinging in the wind.

You need to check the system used to fix the trampoline as it may not be suitable for netting, though you may be able to adapt it with rods.

We had sections or prawn trawler netting a few years ago, you need a towel to reduce the knots digging into you.

Our current cat has slats between the hulls up front, handy to stow the tender on.

Avagoodweekend......

Thks for the info Simon.

re the netting I was considering using knotless (woven) safety netting. (75x75mm) A trampoline would not shed water quick enough, the boat is an old (1988) one-off racer designed specifically for the 3 Peaks Challenge, having very low freeboard and therefore we get wet quite often! Great fun though!

I didn't really buy the boat for mooching around, though do take your point on comfort as the current net is a bit rough on bare feet.

Thanks for your help.

We had a net made to measure by a chap down in Millbrook, I'll dig the number out if you are interested

nylon doesnt float - the only common rope that does is polyprop, and that degrades in sunlight quite badly
