Three crew rescued after catamaran capsizes off the Portugal coast.

A somewhat intelligible translation by Google tells the story from the viewpoint of the rescuing cargo ship.

It does seem that, of the very few cats which capsize, a lot of them seem to have dagger boards down.

Is it that daggerboards reduce the ability of the cat to slide sideways when over-pressed and/or hit side on by a big wave, and cause it to trip instead ?
Or is it perhaps just cats with daggerboards tend to be more sporty, with bigger rigs?

Likely to be both I guess.

I often wonder why when i see the carnage caused after a hurrican that nearly all the cats end up upside down ?
I wonder at what wind speed they become airbourne ?

dreadfull , that is a well proven boat , and has none of the typical features which would cause capsize in many of the modern catamarans ,, it has the potential for some speed so maybe there is some reason / cause there , or maybe something just gone wrong ,, sad news .
