The engine runs fine, no smoke in exhaust, it delivers all 2800rpm, but the sound worries me, had a mechanic (which is no CAT expert/ or boat engineer) listen with a long screwdriver, listen to the valve train, he suggests to pull out injector nr 1, and send it to analyse.

The engine has run 900hrs. And has not been calibrated (valve train done) before.

The engine looses some coolant over time, but I dont know where it goes?
Oil still looks perfect since last change 90 hrs of use.

Any suggestions other than the suggested, or should I go with that.

Pardon my English im from Denmark

I uploaded it to Youtube since ybw won't accept any file uploaded.....

Thx for your reply. The smallest was when I converted it to .mp3, the file is less than 2mb, same result. 🤷‍♂️ It is apparently an unallowed extension, as well as all the other conversions i made....

I had the same problem on one of my 3116s Cat last year . I had a Cat engineer with special tools ream out and then re-seat all the injectors and then re-calibrate the rack. I also sent the oil away for analysis , which was ok. Finnings the Cat agents in the UK are relatively expensive but have good knowledge of these MIU 3116 engines.

Hi FOP!

Did he solve the problem? And lastly what is MIU? ahaaa mechanical injector unit? 😄?🫣

kind regards

Max
Yes , the problem was solved . I should have also mentioned that I had all the injectors tested before I engaged the engineer …they were fine…though it was difficult to find a place to get them tested as they are an “old” specification.
MIU stands for Mechanical Injection Unit.

Dear FOP.

Thx a lot!

I hope it's the same problem as you had. May i ask about the price range for the reconfig. Of the valve train? 🙂.....

About £1300 ex vat . This involved parts, two visits of about 4 hours each and a 50 mile road trip from his base to the boat . Ie 200 miles.
testing of the injectors was separate about £300.
