Cascamite

IIRC 'Beatle' glue was the name of the glue used on the fusalage of the Mosquito. A two part glue and the hardener was purple in colour- and I guess early H and S rules 'Rozalax' was a barrier cream used on the hands when using the glue. Long time ago now when I was but fourteen and fresh out of school.

Ah Rozalax ! Remember it well .The sperm of the devil !! I use to hate using it the smell of the stuff put me right off . Can you still get it ??
 
Cascamite changed my life! The only time I used it was to glue back together the two halves of a hollow mast of my wooden Wayfarer. I glued the mast with a mouse in position to take the halliard. But, of course, the mouse glued in too, so it all had to come apart again.

I'd bought the Wayfarer for the princely sum of £30. It had been lying around for years half full of rainwater. The wood was full of rot and every glued seam was coming apart. No way could I afford to do it up properly on my student grant. I remember hanging around builders' yards scrounging scraps of interior grade ply,and persuading my girlfriend to cut down to size and re-rope some rotten old sails I'd been given.

Amazingly we managed to win some races with the boat, but I lost the girlfriend. She moved out because she was fed up with having a mast wedged right up the hall and out through the kitchen window for three weeks while I glued and re-glued it. I thought of this recently when I was repairing my plywood tender with polyurethane (Gorilla) glue. Job done and relaunched same day! If I'd had that then, I might have kept the girlfriend, and my life could have been quite different.

Beetle is/was the tradename of The British Cyanides Co. Still exists as BIP near B'ham.
I think that they decided that Beetle was a more reassuring name for users of their products.
