Further to JamesTT post yesterday, we need to replace the existing carpet on our Targa 37 as it is very stained and tired and would like to ask the forum for recommendations on who we could use. As we plan to put a new carpet in, an over carpet would also seem a good idea to protect the investment. We are in the Solent area, thanks in anticipation.

FWIW I have just replaced the cabin carpets in my Sunseeker portofino 34 quite easy but time consuming.
Rip out all of the old (cream deep shag pile) and quite dirty due to previuos owners children.
Mark each section on the reverse, to remind of where it came from!
I bought gel backed 100% stain free bathroom carpet from my local indie carpet store, 12sq mt in total ! yep I know I could'nt beleive it either, anyway layed it all out on the living room floor and used the old pieces as templates.
Left an inch all around the new due to the pile being shorter and I would not have been able to hide any bad joins with the pile.
8 stanley knife blades and three tins of spray carpet glue and two weekends later hey presto looks better than new!
(no photos sorry) but take your time and its not a tough job.
Good luck.

Do you mean cockpit or cabin?

If cabin, then lots of carpet shops can do edging for you, and you don't need a special marine type. If cockpit, then I suggest you buy the teak decking from Essex Boatyards, cancelled order for a T37.

I dropped the brown paper template of my cuddy sole into a carpet shop locally today. I picked a carpet out from a roll in stock and they started to cut it whilst I was there. Once cut the carpet will be sent for edging, it will be back with me on Friday!

yup, good household carpet is fine. Dont bother with overcarpets though, imho, they're pointless. "Protect" the investment - more like cover it so you never see it , in which case why have it. If you spill indelible red wine on overcarpet you have to chuck it out, in which case it's cost you the same as if you spilt the wine on the cabin carpet surely? Also overcarpets collect dirt around the edges in the inaccessible-to-Dyson channel that forms

This is all very interesting, but nobody has mentioned underlay which most importantly reduces engine noise.
I am about to recarpet myself and currently have an underlay which is glued to the carpet, is like a black rubbery ompound and is very heavy to move. What do you guys have? Geoff

Hello Geoff
We do not appear to have an underlay, the existing carpet has a foam back and is adhered directly to the sole of saloon, I expect the carpet to rip out reasonably easy but to have large areas of the foam backing firmly stuck to the sole and probably a pain to get off.
