This spring we had a most enjoyable two week bare boat charter out of Guadeloupe. We would like to repeat this experience in another part of the Caribbean.

When we arrived at our charter boat, we were told we had been upgraded. The vessel offered was newish and luxurious but it was not what I would wish to do any serious sailing in. The boat we had booked was still available and was a "proper" sea-going vessel.

How can I choose a boat properly equipped when all the photos show cabin interiors but seem to make little reference to instruments, chart facilities and the like?

You are in the Caribbean - I can see why a boat's hull and sails might make a difference to the style of sailing that you had hoped for but a depth sounder is about the only instrument you will need. Compass and GPS are nice but it's pretty much all line of sight stuff so they are far from essential let alone anything else.

Charter out of Blue Lagoon in St Vincent and explore the Grenadines or do a one way charter to Grenada.

Allow at least two days in the Tobago Cays.

Cruising heaven.

Not sure what you mean by properly equipped. Rader is not needed plotters are a dangerous tool to rely on for reef navigation. I manage just fine with a very basic GPS paper charts and polaroid sunglasses.
