Caribbean cruising guides

Dont want to upset you all too much but since Christmas we have sold the appartment, sold the boat, bought a bigger boat in New York, bought the next school year 'off the shelf' for our 10yr old son and plan to sail off into the sun set on July 5th.
As soon as the website is up and running I will post the address for anyone interested in keeping up with our travels.
The plan is to cruise the North East coast until the Hurricane season has ended and then head south first to Bermuda the Bahamas and Caribbean.
After that who knows.
Now I,ve got that out of the way I wanted to ask advice on which Caribbean cruising guides are good and bad.
We have the usual collection of rough guides which are a mine of info but I wanted to have a few boaty guides as well.
Any advice on the guides or cruising the caribbean in general would be much appreciated.

Most people we met used Chris Doyle's guides. They are very informative though a fair bit of space is wasted saying what nice guys the owners of restaurants (and other advertisers) are. Don Street's books are the alternative but can't comment as I haven't used them.

There is a good set of chart portfolios that tie in with Doyle's books but you can use either in isolation.
 
Doyles guides are great, Streets guides were rubbish. I went with Streets guides, but found them to be out of date and thus badly informed on many anchorages and local information. Pilotage information was average, but in a lot of cases the aerial photos in the Doyles guides are more informative.

If I'd gone by Streets recomendations/warnings I'd have missed some of the best bits of our trip, one Island we loved being Eustatia....Street said dont bother, in a few more words.

But he did say at the end of each chapter, if you want up to date info then speak to the people who live and sail there....that bit was correct.

I've used both from Venezuala mainland to Los Roques, Trini and up to the US Virgins.
