Some of the brokers don't seem to have experience in customer service so you'd be one up on them there.

According to my very recent experience, you need Grade A passes in ensuring gross errors in your printed details, getting the price wrong on your website, failing to remove boat details from your website when it's sold, failing to mention VAT is'nt paid, sending the wrong photos with the right boat, cocking up Bill of Sale details and you need Distinctions in never returning phone calls and never being open at weekends when Joe Public wants to look at your boats. These qualities are very rare but, get these right, and you'll make an excellent yacht broker

Does that mean you've now sold, Mike? Or is it one you were interested in.

I really fail to see how some brokers make such hard work of what should be a relatively simple process. In any other business most of them wouldn't last 5 minutes.

My sale was supposed to complete about a week ago, John, but for reasons involving the purchaser's finance arrangements, it has'nt done so yet. I'm told its going to go ahead tomorrow but I'm not holding my breath
Yes, you would think it should be a simple procedure but things seem to go wrong largely due to a depressing lack of professionalism

What bugs me is that you buy a boat (assumed via a broker!) and the poor guy thats has loved it previously has to pay 8% to someone useless idiot that has done bugger all

Then 6 monhts later you have out grown it and want a bigger one.. and your investment of £xx,xxx is now going to cost you 2 or 3 grand to sell it... again using a broker.

Oh and of course, "the storage is on top Mr You DID have loads of cash" til you bought a boat of course!

So you get stung twice - value of craft is reduced (older etc) and you got to pay to sell it...

I think its a bloody con, maybe we should look to do the same with cars?

Mid-life crisis Julian?? Yep, I'll join you there!

The answer to your question is none

Its worse than that because, as I found out to my great expense, the broker buying route gives the buyer as much protection as a private sale - i.e. none! You might as well buy private and sell private where possible. I did this with my last boat and guess how much expense and hassle I had? None.

Re: Judas!!

Thanks John!

Well i like the idea of chartering a yacht in the BVI for a week or two - and best way to get some hours in is to buy a rag and stick for a couple of years and go from there!

But it will never happen if i keep buying these damn motor boat mags....!

Cheers,

Craig.
