I see nothing has changed with the yellow ribs when locking out of Cardiff bay

We were waiting yesterday along with another 6 boats. Last to arrive they still made it into the locks first.

Unfortunately they weren’t the only ones pushing in. A number of boats who clearly arrived after us didn’t think twice about passing us on the approach to the lock. I’m pretty sure they wouldn’t do this in other areas of there lives, strange they don’t apply the same rules when in their boats. Ah well if it makes their day, we’ll do as we did yesterday and just allow them to have their thrill of winning the race into the locks and get on with enjoying our day out.

This was the first time I've had a problem at the locks.

I even defended the etiquette of users at the barrage in a previous post Here

Maybe I was a bit hasty /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

I think this is the same as the speed limit at the entrance to the Taff. The Aquabus is alllowed to break the speed limit so lots of people do the same. The yellow ribs are allowed to get away with forcing themselves in, so others think it is a free-for-all. I read somewhere the harbour authority have said they will do more about it. When we came in on Sunday it was OK as they had two locks opening at almost the same time (16.15)

If you "push in" on the inland waterways you're liable to be shot!

That's a good idea! Maybe I should market my patent paintball gun (filled with black stickflex) - originally conceived for PWC's and mobos who gun past too close /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

At 15:38 I enquired if the 16:00 lock was running and they said they were busy with something unspecified which turned out to be the yellow rib locking in at the locking out time...

And everyone is usually so well-behaved here. It could possibly have something to do with -

a) Pushers-in may be told to push off or the lock won't run until they are out of the way
b) Little pushers-in end up right at the front, under the waterfall that results when the lock keeper accidentally opens the gates a bit too much. Allegedly /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif
