As the weather looks ok (amazing for an August bank holiday weekend) we are going to come over from Brizzle on Saturday with some friends to have a look at the festival goings on. Unfortunately have to go back on Sunday but if you are around come and have a beer on Flying Legend. Will most likely berth at CBYC as they have lots of room and good beer.

Sorry for replying too late - there was a live band at CYC,

And they now ask for a donation to club funds - which as a member I totally disagree with - it should be free as other BC clubs are for us. However I believe CBYC is £10 a night so it's still probably cheaper.

As a CBYC member I find it a bit embarrasing that we charge visitors. I visit lots of clubs all over the channel and allways get a welcome and usually no charge.

Personally I think that genuine members of another BCYA affiliated club should get at least one free night on the visitors pontoon .

PS if you use CBYC visitors pontoons be aware you will need plenty of good fenders due to motorboat wash .

CYC

I agree with Cardiffbruiser, at least one or two nights should be free to visitors. Some of the people here over the weekend spent a good deal in the bar. The band were pretty good too.
Due to the layout our visitors mooring don't suffer too much from wash, they are protected by the boats on the pontoons from most of it.
I should have read this thread earlier, I could have then claimed a beer from Seedog while we were locking out on Sunday! We were the Westerly with the dog, on your Starboard side when you were asked to move forward in the lock.

Dont see why. I cant think of another pukka marina in the channel which is free. Sure some clubs dont charge but then they dont provide anything much other than a club house anyway - and we dont charge for that anyway.

And if we didnt charge then all the visitors would come to CBYC rather than CYC - better facilities and a much more smooth and sophisticated membership. :D

Don't mind paying a tenner, free is better of course and gives me another tenner to spend in the bar!
If a "donation" is preferred I would be quite happy to donate a tenner - saving £6.50 on the price at Penarth and Portishead and £8.00 (?) on Watchet.
Once stayed nearly a week in the Graving(?) dock. The one with all the fishing boats in and didn't have to pay anything! I was a bit smelly at the end of the week though!

Allan,

We thought Lily was a star, what a great dog. She looked to be really enjoying her trip out.

Didn't really see much of the festival as we didn't get in to the bay until after 6pm and the following day had to get back to Bristol as one of the crew needed to get home.
