Anyone know why the top end of the bay (mermaid quay) is buoyed off with just a narrow gap between 2 port and starboard hand markers?

I watched them layingthe line of buoys a few weeks ago.It makes a bit of a bottle neck on a busy day.

Re: Cardiff Bay Moorings

Mermaid Quay is right by the waterfront bars, restuarants etc; it works on the same principle as a car park i.e. pay and display - but no overnight mooring. try Cardiff Yacht Club pontoons, only a short walk to shops etc. Otherwise either the marina at Penarth or the Cardiff Bay YC visitors pontoon (the old Penarth MB and YC) Nothing else closer to the town centre. Hope this helps

It's the demarcation for the 5knot limit into and out of the mermaid quay part.

HM was hovering outside last night waiting for boats coming out!!!
