I've finally got there, just a couple more months and the boat can be launched. Decided on Cardiff Bay Yacht Club, will complete the application forms this weekend and will drop them down next week. Looking at bronze moorings for Lady Me!

Cheers

welcome to the club. This will be our 4th Season there and we really enjoy it. The club house makes a big differance. We are on D pontoon or will be shortly when our new lady gets put back in.

Say hi or give us a wave if you see us.

Welcome to our club. I would have gone for silver to save carting all the kit miles but anyway its better than gold where you get trashed by the wake from boats in the bay.
We are on F so say hello if were on board.

Welcome to the club. You should be afloat just in time for the summer. Will keep an eye out for Lady Me.

Lady Bouy could be an option if she actually floats !!!

At present I'm happy to go with bronze, silver may be an option in time. Still lots of little jobs needing to be done, but hopfully she will be mostly done before we transport her down, I've hopfully got as mate who will lend me his hi-ab truck, if he can't, any recommendations ?

These people are based in Barry. I have seen some quite large motorboats on their trailer.Could be worth a call.http://www.7marine.co.uk/

Thanks for the link Graham. I think I spoke too soon, did some work on the exhaust manilfold this afternoon, started her up and tweaked the carbs. Went to restart her and the startermotor is turning the fly wheel but nothing else is turning. I'm hoping its the spines on the fly wheel which are trashed instead of the crank.

Glad it happened on the drive and not in the water. She maybe ready next year, time to plan how to get the engine out - took 3 months to get her in so not a happy chappy.

Time to break the news to the wife.

Stripped down the bell housing, found all 8 bolts on the flywheel had sheared. Its an AQ151, any ideas why it may have happened ?

Bit surprising that. Maybe a previous strip down and sub standard bolts used or bolts not tightened properly resulting in fretting. Maybe hydraulic lock in the cylinder, maybe a sudden stop - chain round prop. Got to be some sudden sheer to the flywheel.

Unless an obvious cause comes to light I would be inclined to do a complete strip down. Dont like unexplained problems.

I had a similar problem with a Bukh DV10 engine through my own lack of knowledge. I was at the bottom of quite a steep diesel engine learning slope. This is quite a lot smaller engine than yours.

I stripped it down completely and in the rebuild used SS bolts for the flywheel as the old ones were slightly damaged and rusty. I put the assembled engine on a frame for a test run. On starting the engine all 6 bolts sheared instantly and the flywheel shot through the wall of the garage and across the garden for 20 feet. Without the flywheel it revved fully and was bouncing around the garage. I did not dare to get near it. I pulled the fuel pipe out the can but it still worked. I had to strangle it by putting my hand on the air intake (no filter). It took about 2 mins to stop. I had a 2in blood blister on the palm of my hand for 3 weeks.

I should have used new high tensile steel bolts. It was only a 10hp engine!

After a couple of months, have now rebuilt the engine and tested her on the drive, she sounds better than before. All it needs is a bit of tuning, which I'll do on the water.

Thanks for all your help, application forms going down next week !!!!

Cheers
