Does anyone know if this is a good place to launch a 19' trailer sailer? I might come down this weekend for a few days and have just found it on Google Maps. It looks good, but do they have a limit on length, and could I leave a trailer and car there for a few days? Or would I be better at CYC?

Why dont you give them a call? they have a slip which you can use for a fee, and there is an area that you can chain up your trailer...but give them a call first. are you a member of CYC? if you are it would be better to launch there.

I'd tried to call them but the number wasn't working, hence asking here. I'm currently deciding between this coming weekend in Cardiff, or carrying on out to Sandersfoot. The new Harbourmaster there is ex-Cardiff and keen to build up trailersailing.

The number for Cardiff Yacht Club is 02920 463697 and it appears to be working OK. Like many clubs however, there is an answering machine.

If you are not a member but are a member of another club then there may a chance to launch. You would need to ask for Jock who runs the boat yard at CYC.

Bear in mind however, that the weekends can be very busy and usually the slip is booked up well in advance for members boats.

There is however, a Cardiff Council run slip way at Channel View Leisure Centre that is on the lower part of the Taff where it joins the Bay.

According to this web page at http://www.cardiffharbour.com/content.asp?nav=12,54&parent_directory_id=1

"Slipway access to Cardiff Bay is available to the general public at Cardiff Bay Water Activity Centre, For details of charges and access please call 029 2035 3912. "

I believe there is a degree of secure trailer parking in a gated area next to the slipway. Certainly worth a call.

Also there is a commercial slipway at Cardiff Marine - see http://themarinegroup.co.uk/cardiff/services-centre/pricing.

It was the Channel View number which wasn't working yesterday, but I got through today. It looks like a perfect place and ideal for me - except for the clearance under the bridge. I need another metre. :(

There's an OGA meet at CYC this weekend. I may do that unless the weather looks perfect for a sail to Lundy and back from Saundersfoot.
