Cardiff Bay - the in's and out's

Channel 80 for the Marina then Channel 18 for the Barrage control.

Small tides next weekend you could probably get out whenever you want. Check with barrage control for latest info about depths in the outer harbour.phone number is 02920 700234

No Sorry not today.
Saturday looks best, last of the Easterlies to get me down the BC, turn the corner in time for the new westerlies.
Well that's the plans anyway.

She's moored next to Cardiff Bay Boat Sales.
Name "Somersault" on the boom/sail cover

EDIT: Wind looks more in the south now than west for Sunday. How many hours before HW can I lock out through the barrage? (6'4")
What's the protocol for locking out?
.

Locking out is on the hour and half hour. Sunday is near neaps so you will be able to lock out any part of the tide. I would suggest 2 hrs or maybe even 2.5 hrs before HW ie 1600 / 1530 hrs lock. Much earlier than that and you will simple end up taking for ever to get round Lavernock point where the tides at full pelt run up to 4kn or more. Stick close to the welsh shore until the tide turns.

You call the barrage on ch 18 but there isnt a booking system - its every man for himself. Not likely to be much competition at that time though

Many thanks to all.
Boat now safely on her mooring in Southwold, Suffolk.
We lost a couple of days on route because of 40+ winds.
We bailed out of the first attempt at rounding lands end and sailed back to padstow.
From there we rounded and got into Penzance as very rough seas made the thought of the Lizard at night not a great idea.
Penzance to Plymouth was a blast.
Then a long one from Plymouth to Portsmouth, dropped a crew member off, had breakfast and sailed to Brighton Marina.
Possibly the worst entry I've ever sailed into even though the Brighton duty officer said it was ok.
Horrible and won't be going back, ever!
Then lastly Brighton to Southwold.

The stars of the show were the oldish Aurohelm 200 tiller pilot and
Nexus 7 tablet (free with my phone) with a £4.50 app and £20 admiralty charts from Visitmyharbour.com covering the whole of the UK, simply superb, never missed a beat which is more than can be said for the Garmin which has developed back lighting and contrast issues.

Lastly thanks to the guy at Penarth Marina with the Colvic (you know who you are) who very kindly gave me a lift from Force 4 to the marina so I didn't have to try and track down a taxi having just taken the hire car back.

Glad the trip went OK, probably safer than the trip back from Force 4 in my van :)
Regards

Very interesting, thanks for that.
