Cardiff bay harbour festival poll

Didn't go this year - but I can't understand why Cardiff is the only place I know of where they actually reduc the numer of available visitor berths during their harbour festival - Is there any logical explanation?

They just don't like boats.......it was also Harbour authority who created the most wake a few weeks ago while i was fixing electrics. Also when i got in after a night sail all i did was sleep but got charged 10 quid for a few hrs snooze! It was easier to go there knowing i could nip to tesco in the morning to get milk etc.Other thing they don't understand is that some of us have sailed during the night and get pissed off when they wake you up while trying to get some sleep.

Rammed full of people shoreside today,(mon) as was sat and sun so i was told.

will boats go else where in future after being denied the delights of MQ on a bank holiday weekend? I doubt it.

We had a great weekend 6 yachts sailed up from Ilfracombe on Friday. Moored at Cardiff Yacht Club, who realy looked after us and made us most welcome.
did lots of walking and drinking !

We went and had a good weekend, not bothered about Mermaid quay mainly because as it has been reduced in size it's difficult to get a berth anyway! Plenty of food outlets and tat stools but little else. Nothing there for kids to do, even less than last year. They will have to along way to get near to other festivals.

Well i think the future was spelled out for us when the powers that be refused the tall ships thingy a few years back, also the chance to have HMS Cardiff berthed in the roath basin as a tourist atraction when she was put out to grass was deemed too expensive,

The only oldish boat in Cardiff on a pemanant basis is the Lightship and that is because it is self funded.Even the old "Seamark" is being towed to Swansea floating museum as we type.

Apart from yachts what would you like to see at a harbour festival?
Mine are-
Market
bars
Bands
Kids entertainment
Street entertainment
fireworks
flying display
navy ships

Up to last year i think it was we had all of the above execpt the navy ship and the flying display.

but the HA's buget has been slashed by, iirc 3million quid over the next 3 years,so somethings had to go aswell as jobs.
So same old think for the forseeable future.

somewhere to blooming moor that does not involve a huge trek to the action (by this I mean we should be allowed to moor amongst the tall ships (of which I have heard Cardiff have blown their chance of the Tall Ships Race finishing in Cardiff)

Oh sorry about the rant - I did not attend this year because of the mooring arrangements.

I would like to see better facilities, and a better show - just look at Bristol Harbour Festival... now that is a festival!
