I have a 23ft Hirondelle Catamaran with a Carbospars Aerorig. The boat is mid 90's and as a part of my refit, I would like to remove the mast for clean / inspection and to replace vhf aerial and masthead light (don't think it has been looked at for 20 years!). A few questions have arisen...
1) It would seem that the transverse boom stays in place by friction as is not mechanically attached to the mast - it drops down when unsupported by forestay / sails / halyards. Is this meant to be the case (to enable the mast to be lifted through it) or should there be some adhesive / sealant to help secure it?
2) I have not inspected the bearing (?) on the coachroof. Is this full of ball bearings that will roll out once the cover is removed or is it a sealed unit?
3) Any idea how heavy the mast is likely to be - approx 10m long.
4) I have assumed as it is very bendy (technical term) that hoisting someone up the mast is unwise

Also, anyone in the Hayling Island area with knowledge of this rig who would be happy to impart some hands on knowledge?

Thanks

Hi. Long time since u posted about the aerorig but I've only just seen it.
Did u get any answers?
Did u lift the mast?
What happened, in general, and specifically with boom, bearings etc. Any good points, any disasters?
Have u still got the hirondel?
Regards dave
