I a planning a summer cruise from Chichester to Cornwall for August this year and am looking for somewhere to safely park a car for up to two weeks in or around Kingwear. The local marina is asking for £5 per day, so I'm happy to pay a reasonable amount. Any offers?

Several options. My son parked on a road coming down into Kingswear where it splits to the left, looked to be a good spot and reasonably safe. And free.
Or on Dartmouth side also free on Warfleet Creek road. Both of these used last w/e without any problems.
Another alternative is somewhere in Paignton and catch the steam train across.

That is just at the bottom of the hill coming across from Brixham/Paignton....I would be nervous leaving a car there... but I may be just paranoid... Kingswear is a pain because of the restrictions.... How about at Noss Marina?? IIRC there are no parking controls there, unlike Darthaven... and they have a big empty boat park at this time of year.... We left a car there for a week a few years back... dont think that there was any charge...

I phoned Noss and was told no way jose. The place at Kingswear is about .5 mile before the bottom of the hill. I walked up to car with my son and I'd be happy to leave mine in that spot, off the main road and not much traffic.

[/ QUOTE ]£5 a day for nothing more than a few sq m of land, to a prospective customer. Shame on them. What's the name of the money-grubbing company, so we can all try to avoid doing business with them in the future?

What might be reasonable is for you to leave your car there on the informal understanding that when you arrive in the harbour you will stay in their marina while you are there.

I did my Day Skipper practical course at Dartmouth, and parked at Kingswear, near the marina. I seem to remember it being about 3 pounds a day. However, at the end of the week, I drove home. Partway home, I dropped something. Reaching down, I discovered about an inch of water in the footwells. To cut a long story short, the carpark had been flooded - luckily with fresh water. I realised later that the car had a tide mark half-way up the door!
