Anybody heard anything about this?

It looks like a big-budget movie on the subject mentioned here a good deal - a massive container ship (Maersk Alabama?) being attacked by pirates off the coast of east Africa.

I haven't been to the cinema yet this year, but if there are any positive reviews of this, I'd like to see it. :)

The trailers look good - its on general release from tomorrow (18 th - I think)
Seems to be some good films out at the moment, would like to see Rush amongst others.

Quite familiar with most of the real story - don't get your hopes up: Somali pirates as seen by Hollywood.
If you're after no more than some casual entertainment, by all means watch it.
If you're after a more realistic movie on the subject, you're far better off watching this: http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00BUPEK1Y/ref=oh_details_o00_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Thanks OR4751, that movie A Hijacking does look like alarmingly convincing stuff, with no Hollywood bull. The Baltic turns out lots of good drama these days.

But, the last thing I saw in the cinema was Skyfall - which I rather enjoyed - so I feel it's time I paid my tenner and took a seat before the big screen again.

Tom Hanks is definitely one of the best of the current crop of actors, so apart from any other merits of the film, at least you should get a great performance from him.

Two best-actor Oscars - Forrest Gump & Philadelphia. Personally, I thought Castaway was his best performance so far.

I watched it last night and genuinely enjoyed it. Didn't particularly like the way it portrayed the crew but oh well.

Was on the edge of my seat at the end even though, of course, you know how it turns out.

Poor somali rat lookin bastids too.

I'd give it a 7-8/10.

Interesting point. Couldn't help thinking that Hanks playing a kidnapped merchant seaman held on the hijackers' boat, sounds like an odd combination of Cast Away and The Life of Pi...

Aaah! Please don't tell!! I really don't know how it turned out, please don't spoil it for me, anybody. Thanks!

The pirates were played by real Somali's, who apparently answered an ad' !

Favourable reviews so far, I might go and see it myself; on the trailers I was very impressed with the apparently real anti-boarding water cannons along the side, far more elaborate than I'd realised.

Could do with some of those to repel Borders Agency and Harbourmasters.

'All is Lost' is due to be released tomorrow (although wont be in the cinema's for a while)...varied reviews but worth a viewing I think!

Yes but unless it's special effects and completely bogus, this would appear to be the actual Maersk ship, have you seen the trailer to say if it's real ?

I have seen the trailer.
The ship in the trailer is the actual Maersk Alabama.
But it would seem her counter piracy measures have been significantly upgraded since the actual incident.

What on earth did the ad say?
