Cappuccino on the Isles of Scilly?

We'll be sailing to the Isles of Scilly this year. I have got the charts, a plotter, the West Country Cruising Companion, Scillypete is sending me his "Sailors guide to the Isles of Scilly", what could go wrong?

There is one question left:
Where on the Isles of Scilly can we get a real cappuccino???

I think the fourth paragraph in that article reveals the reason Starbucks is dropping the Cappa: They're difficult (ie expensive) to make. Mind you, I've never been (or intend going) to a Starbucks so I can't really comment on their milky coffee flavoured drinks

The trouble is steaming the milk - it's all too easy to burn it and turn it effectively into frothy, rancid butter.

We have a small single gang Grimeca in the cafe attending our school. The first thing most studenta are taught is how to make a proper cappuccino, not the foul concoction most high street coffee shops serve up! Cannot do it, shouldn't be allowed to do it.

Typical high street 'barista' errors include:
- Using the wrong coffee (robusta instead of arabica)
- Making the coffee into espresso cups then pouring into cappuccino cups, thereby losing the crema.
- Running too much/too hot water through the coffee it so it tastes of pencil shavings
- Scalding the milk so it tastes of UHT
- Not pouring milk and froth into the cup in one go, then using a spoon.
- Reheating large containers of milk repeatedly
- Spray cream.
- Syrup.
- Nescafe & instant cappuccino.

Do you think I might have coffee anxiety?

Hell Bay Hotel, Bryher. Worth it for the view.
Anchor in bay, on east of island, if you can take the ground.

Go and see Jason at Polreath tea rooms on St. Martin's.
 
In the fifties my mum did B&B, and a Monsieur Bobard, Minister plenipotentiary was booked to arrive. She was in a right old state about what coffee to serve, and querulously enquired of him what might suit. "'Ave you no Nescafe?" was the reply.

She also embarked on a baked Alaska. All the time it was in the oven she fluttered about the kitchen, muttering "Ice cream in the oven ! Honestly! Never heard of such a thing." all the while eying the cooker and expecting it to come trickling out. At the appointed moment out came a perfect dessert, she patted her hair into place and took the dish in to the guests with a self-satisfied smirk.

I'm definitely no help as I don't touch caffeine in any form if I can help it and a happy side effect of being caffeine free is no longer suffering from thumping hangovers after a night out

If you do, you must be one of those rare Dutch(wo)men who don't mind raising a mortgage for a coffee/cappuccino, then.

Seriously: there are PLENTY of places that make proper cappuccino on the IoS. As least as good as any you'd get in mainland Britain or The Low Countries.

ps: the rule bans Cappuccinos after 11.00 am.... a rule which I happily disregard :-)
 
At this moment we are sitting in the Deli next to the Bishop and Wolf pub in Hugh Town on St. Mary's and they do a perfect cappuccino. We also had a very good one in Speros on the St. Mary's Harbour beach.
So for the cappuccino lovers there is no reason not to go to the Isles of Scilly!

Not long ago this thread would have been enquiring about pilotage, holding ground and anchors in the Scillies.

Now we get pleas about the perfect Cappucio !

Is this progress ? - Discuss -:)
 
McDonalds and Burger King may sell a drink called a cappuccino.... They also sell things they call meals.

Obviously sailing is now such a safe and straightforward pastime now we have GPS, AIS, EPRIBS and PLBs that the only source of stress is whether our destination has decent coffee.
