Cape Verde

IMHO it invariably happens with less visited places, fewer crews visit, and as the places themselves often have a strong flavour interacting with our taste, some people strongly like them, others strongly dislike them

honestly, I think the only way of making an opinion about one place is to go there by yourself ...
This is a council of perfection, Roberto. In reality there are choices and not time enough to visit everywhere. Where we choose to go always has, and always will, depend to a considerable extent on the recent reports of other voyagers.

It sounds like CVI, or Mindelo at least, has improved a good deal in recent years, though even when I went Mindelo was fine, just the rest of CVI that was a disappointment. I agree with you that CVI always has been a place that polarises opinion.

There's not loads to see and do here and if we were passing this way again we might well sail directly from the Canaries, but if you've not been, it certainly worth visiting once.[/QUOTE]

Do take the ferry to Sao Antao - the island is amazing. Spend a few pennies, get a guide and driver (rustle up a group of people for the trip) and go and stay for a couple of nights on the north side of the island, and take some walks through beautiful countryside and villages with supremely hospitable people. A real joy of a place.
