My current boat is for sale and is described on my website www.bateau-nirvana.com
I have placed ads on Apollo Duck and Boats & Outboards.

Any ideas where else I could advertise it and if using an agency in UK or France is worthwhile. I have received mixed reports on various magazines (not PBO of course) so would appreciate any recommendations.

Thanks.

Think about Boats and Outboards, Appolo Duck and even Ebay!

Cheers and nice boat! By the way, I think the boat is overpriced at £25k. Maybe Euro 25K, but that is just my opinion!

It is overpriced, I looked at an identical boat in Lymington called Wight Teal, it had been for sale at 18,000 all year and just sold. Had the inboard Diesel etc.

You can get a nearly new 625WA Camerat for 18-22k
Walton have a brand new 715 WA for about 26k

Lovely boat, just pricey.

Isn't the market difference in the SoF?

For example when we were looking at boats over there in places like St Maxime and St Raphael, the bayliners and similar sized mariahs were in a very poor state yet were going for the same money as we got the Binnie for in the end in the UK which was (and still is) in mint condition...

Other Bayliners in better condition with the same spec were up to £4,000 more expensive /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif

It ended up cheaper for us to buy here and trailer it over, so in my experience boats are generally more expensive in that region because there are quite a few brits with holiday homes who would rather buy there than be bothered with trailering or spend over £2,000 on transporting it over from UK with a company ot trailering it there themselves...

Thanks for all your comments. I'll check out eBay & the magazines suggested. Prices are higher in the South of France than in the UK. €25K for the boat is probably fair, however it does come with an excellent all-year mooring. There is a 3 year waiting list around this part of the coast so a mooring is at a premium. You can get moorings for a day, week even a month sometimes at a price, but all year no. This saves a lot on trailing, storage and hard work. Sometimes boats are sold just for the mooring, you later see the boat up for sale in a boatyard nearby.

Has anyone had experience with brokers in France?

Used boats (and cars) are generally more expensive in France because they change them far less often, so there are less for sale. I don't know the statistic for boats, but the average Frenchie keeps their car for seven years.

damon, to be fair, those prices will be for outboard powered boats whereas this one is diesel sterndrive powered but I agree that it seems overpriced, given that it is 10yrs old. On the other hand, the price seems to include a berth but, for how long, it's not clear

The boat that just sold had the inboard diesel mike, it was identical @ 18k so sold for less than that. I agree though that like for like - boats seem to be higher priced in SoF. Is seems so implausible that somewhere on the planet is more expensive to consumers than the UK...

I know that has been stated but it's not my experience and I've bought and sold a couple of boats in the Med. SoF boats may look expensive at the moment but that's only because the £ is very weak against the €. A few years ago, it was the other way round when the £ was strong against the € and Med boats looked cheap

When I was looking a year ago, even before the big sterling devaluation, boats were generally pricier in South of France than UK, especially if you factor in that the sellers / dealers don't expect to discount the asking price as much. They actually tend to take offence if you put in a low offer.

The price on the website is £25K including the berth (renewable each year) and all the equipment & accessories. Price is always negotiable within reason so of course I'm open to offers.

I have noticed that prices in France tend to be much more fixed. Making a low offer isn't so much of an insult, more that you are not serious about a deal. Same with houses, cars, etc.

The fact remains that it's unsold.
If it doesn't sell in the next few months you might want to consider a lower price. I wouldn't buy it at anything like that price, the berth isn't something I'd consider in the asking price.

My first 2 Med boats were bought in the Balearics and Spain so I suppose that's not the same as SoF but, in both cases, I offered and got the boat for well below asking price but I was dealing thru brokers so I did'nt experience first hand the indignation of the owners, if there was any! My present boat was bought from a SoF owner but thru Dutch brokers. I made an offer below asking price which was reduced again after survey. I made it clear it was a take it or leave it situation so he took it (eventually) but not without complaint
IMHO, buying a used boat is as much about finding info on the owner and his situation as it is about looking at the boat. Find that the owner is keen/desperate to sell and/or the boat has been on the market for a long time and you can assume there's room for negotiation, whatever the nationality of the owner. If some French owner is going to take umbrage if I offer hard cash for his boat, then, as far as I'm concerned, he can stick his boat where the sun don't shine /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif
When I was looking in SoF at used boats, I found quite a few boats for sale together with the mooring or with a few months in the mooring which, of course, is a different situation so the issue becomes how desperate the buyer is to get a mooring, hence maybe higher prices

Hi Damon,
A long time has past since your post, but I have just bought Wight Teal.
On sea trials it only achieved 14 knots at 4000 rpm.
I wondered whether you recall going out and whether it planed or whether I can only expect to get 14 knots max?
