I have been looking to replace the canvas canopy on my Sealine S24 and after looking at the recommendations from previous posts, I went and got 4 quotes.

The quotes vary quite a bit for a custom made canopy, and now trying to make my mind up who to go for based on quality and price. So I thought I would ask for your comments.
The 4 quotes came from Comfort Afloat £1400, JB Yacht Services £1700, TecSew £2700 and CJ Marine £2900.

As you can see the prices all seem quite high for a small boat, am I missing something here, is this reasonable. I did find Jim from JB and TecSew to be the best in advice and guidance.

Does anyone have comments on the canvas quality, zips, windows etc by these companies?

Thanks!

Here in the Midlands, Wilsons are very popular, 01384 872983, and J&H Trimmings (who I have used) on 01384 279527.

I have been quoted circa £1200 for my Sunline where the canopy is in 2 parts fwd and aft of the radar arch.

I had a cockpit enclosure made by Comfort Afloat about a year ago. Very happy with it, and they offered the best price/delivery. And betterd their own delivery promise.

Use JB. Highly recommended by many on this forum and a 'mid price' player. The cheapest is nearly always that for a reason but thats IMHO.

I've used Jim a few times and never had any issues.

Good luck whoever you go for.

I've just had a full set done by JB for my Targa 40. They fit very nicely - but (as is often remarked upon about JB's covers) they are _very_ tight. Having said that, this wasn't the first time I've used JB, nor will it be the last.

Cheers
Jimmy

Just had mine done in sunbrella on recommendation of a friend and fellow forumite. Mark Davey ( - based at Hailsham but covers () the South coast - ) did an excellent job on my 33' boat, front and back halves around the arch, for £1800.

He was happy to modify/improve the existing design with additional openings, etc..

His number is 07889 890168 if yer bovvered. As you'd expect, he's a busy man at the moment.

I used C&J to make my new flybridge cover. Out of the peops I spoke to, they gave a competitive price, came to the boat measured up, redesigned the fitment (greatly improved) and did the job on time. No connection, they just did what they said they would. I would use them again. Whoever you use, make sure you get a decent quality material.

JB has done a few jobs for us & always found his work excellent & price very fair

Jimmy - that's the very reason I avoided JB this time. The previous owner of my boat had them fit the existing canopy, and it was always extremely tight.

As I'm sure you're aware, they shrink with weathering and mine shrank to such an extent I had to use long-nose pliers to pull the fabric over the turn-buttons.

The new one has been fitted deliberately slightly slack to allow for the impending shrinkage. It's great to be able to close it up without the use of tools!

For Information I got a complete set made by...

M J Marine Trimmers Ltd
30 Eldon Way
Hockley
Essex

But to be honest I wast really happy with the quality (don't know a lot about covers but seemed a bit slap dash to me) ......:(
