Where can I get a proper, old fashioned canvas deck bucket from?
I am now on no. 4 B&Q plastic job. Useless for scooping up water while under way... I no longer wish to contribute to the amount of non-biodegradeable plastic in the sea.
I guess I could make one, but that seems like the maritime equivalent of stuffing mushrooms.

Or you could use a builder's bucket (black plastic, metal handle). Very cheap. The handle rusts eventually, but not in a year or two, and in the mean time it is strong enough to resist the drag of 5+ knots.

There's a trick to picking up water on the move: drop the bucket upside-down, flick it on its side, swing it up before the drag comes on. If it's only half-full, never mind.

But it doesnt stow flat, it chips paint, leaks rust, and if you do get a good bucket full whilst sailing the handle rips off. Other than fact I have to have two 2 gallon buckets to meet the rquirements of ORC special regs, I wouldnt bother with them.
