Can't read the forum on new PC...

Re: Can\'t read the forum on new PC...

If I set the resolution on this pc to something in the low 1000 s then I can get exactly the effect you describe. So it seems to me that if you reduce the count to 800 by whatever, you are likely to get a full screen picture.

Nick

Have just checked a notebook here which the YBW site is ok on, but it is a 4:3 screen though - anyway is set 1024x768, DPI 96, Font Size Normal.

I have had problems with some applications, especially legacy ones and apart from changing the DPI (Control Panel>Display>Settings>Advanced>General) and the font size, ensuring that it is set to Clear Type fonts sometimes helps if you are not aware of it (Display>Properties>tick "Use the following method to smooth edges of fonts" and select "ClearType"). From memory Windows does not default to this and is worth trying on all displays.

Hope that helps if not already known or sorted.

Re: Can\'t read the forum on new PC...

Just a quick note, before people start playing, Changing font size, via control panel;, and even using Ctrl and Mouse scroll, will have no effect on the forum, other than a few off frame features.

Simple answer, it's a great toy, which works on some sites, but not this one

Changing smooth edges etc can help some applications, but probably not much help here.

There is not much you can do to offset the fact that this forum will owly appear on the left of your screen, and changing display settings will have littlle effect on this forum (other than making bits look bigger) but screw up all the other websites you go to.

Love to be proved wrong?

Re: Can\'t read the forum on new PC...

Agreed, the only thing that changes the appearance of this site itself is the resolution (pixel width the screen set to) and ClearType (which does not make anything bigger). However, I am surprised that there is not some way around it or not just something incorrectly set as a 1280x800 screen is not much different in format than a 4:3 one and the site is no problem whatsoever on a 4:3 one. Unfortunately I do not have a 1280x800 LCD screen to try but wonder if it is anything that can be done with the Device Settings in the display tools that many notebooks come with.

Anyway, maybe Nick has it all sorted now.

Re: Can\'t read the forum on new PC...

I haven't had time to try any of the suggestions, but I'm sure you are right. It is not a problem with the forum or the resolution settings - its because of the ratio of the screen dimensions, ie 'widescreen'.

I will have a go at proving us both wrong over the weekend - cos I aint got no boat at present!!

They are very nicely made computers though - next time I think I will go for Sony also (so let us know how you get on /forums/images/icons/smile.gif).
