Canopy FIxings

As I see it, the main objection to lift-the-dots is that you have a big unsightly spiky stud sticking up to catch things on when the canopy is off.

Agree, turnbuckles are more secure on heavily loaded points, or when susceptible to flapping/cyclic loading, but what about ordinary press studs for the easy bits?
 
I supply canopies, definitely go for the turn buckles at the stress points and any trailing edge parts if possible. The lift type are good, but turn buckles are better.
If you are having a new canopy check that the canopy fittings are all stainless steel and not just cheap ones. I would also check that the windows are ultra sonically welded in and not just sewn.
You probably already know to look for these points but I have seen some really cheap covers on boats recently and I bet that they still paid a high price for them.
