Cannibalize USB GPS puck for input to DSC VHF?

Thanks for all the detailed responses. I guessed there was a remote chance that my spare BU-353 which needs 5V at the USB plug may have suitable NMEA0183 at 4800 baud available somewhere inside the puck. I thought I'd ask rather than test it myself (I can get to the right test gear). When I did my PhD in electrical engineering I did a lot of machine code programming to control novel equipment quickly as part of research on gigaherz signal processing. But that was in prehistoric times, so my practical electronics knowledge is well out of date. And, until well after retiring, to counteract my high-tech work I wanted sailing to be as technology free as was safe, so I've never followed the inner workings of marine intruments. It now looks like a project to maybe do one winter, but I've a long list of them, and its easier to just keep taking the signal to the radio from a normal GPS receiver output.
