Will be going with my reserved mate, only this time we are taking our families with us, so be warned of a less reserved octet wandering around the pontoons on thu :).

It will be nice to go and enjoy the boats and atmosphere, can't wait. Hoping to get to see the Princess R35 too.

Anyone else have plans for going? I see dates coincide with SIBS.

Fairline have the brand new Targa 43 going to both Cannnes and Southampton. That'll be far more exciting for me than the R35.

Incidentally, I don't think we've ever discussed the R35 on here but it'll be no surprise that I have strong opinions on it. Not least of why is costs nearly double the identically powered and similarly performing new Fairline F33 :)!

Perhaps it has a hull strong enough to take IPS
I have my tickets for Cannes and I seldom miss it. But this year has been very busy, so we shall see

I didn't realise that Fairline are there, missed them on the show listing. Yes, the 43 will be very interesting to see. Looks pretty nice on pics.

The R-Class may be cleverer, the Bladerunner may be faster and the Sunseeker Red Bull will doubtless be flashier, but none of them tug at the heart strings quite like the F-Line 33.

That’s partly because the starting price of £264,600 inc VAT (for those lucky enough to pre-order their boats), is roughly half the cost of its nearest British rival, and partly because of the fond memories so many of us have of the 28-34ft Targas that dominated British boatbuilding during the ’80s, ’90s and early 2000s.

Praps I'm missing the point but to me it looks like a me too sportscruiser with the usual convertible dinette up front/cuddy cabin below the helm accommodation and which puts them bang in the middle of a very crowded market segment. At least Princess are trying to move the game on with their R35 and which may result in a new drive technology that can be rolled out across other models. I would have liked to have seen some radical new ideas from Fairline too. Maybe they're in the pipeline?

R35 is on sterndrives Mike.

Perhaps you're talking about the foils that come out at the rear that give lift to the stern and drop the bows. Seems like they trying to fix a problem that wouldn't exist with a well designed hull (if I want my boat to attain maximum speed I'll reduce drag by lifting the tabs). I wonder if they've got the system working yet as it certainly didn't seem to be working when Hugo drove the prototype (as reported in the magazine). I feel sorry for future owners and dealers that have to support the retracting foil - I can see holidays being spoiled.

Yes, the F-line 33 might be lacking that level of innovation but it will be a thing of beauty, will be beautifully built, keenly priced and I know that Fairline have a few tricks up their sleeves yet.

Despite the above, I'd love to have a go in one!

The foils are not entirely new. Someone is producing a similar smaller boats since a couple of years, and Aliscafi produced by Rodriguez have been doing the Italy small islands rounds since the seventies.

In the Aliscafi they are not cheap to maintain cause my question to an engineer who worked with Rodriguez was why they where never used on fast yachts like a Mangusta or similar.
Since they reduce dray and increase efficiency. Putting them on a 20 meter yacht will be an interesting challenge though.

I was gonna do Cannes this year and I had my flight booked but I cancelled two weeks ago for business reasons.
The flight from Malta is screwed and I only got two days of the boat show, and had to stay there for a week.
 
Yes I know that. Something has to make it go forwards! The foils are part of the drive system

I bow to your vastly superior knowledge but I wouldn't describe something like these foils that are not connected to the drives / engines in any way and are there purely to trim the boat as part of the 'drive system'! Likewise I wouldn't categorise trim tabs in that way either.

I dont want to get into an argument over semantics:D Lets just agree to agree that for you, the Princess foils are akin to trim tabs and for me, they are part of the drive system that makes the boat perform as it does

Now back to Fairline's ground breaking new carbon fibre composite aerodynamic cup holder designs, set to wow visitors at this autumns boat shows;)

And a reduction in 0.5 kg of weight aimed at improving a 0001 of a knot in performance :))
 
Just finished a grueling day at the Cannes boat show. I'm now on the motorway heading home. I went on the Swift Trawler 47 and the Navetta 48, real eye openers.
Best Cannes show yet!:)

Did they have the same ham-fisted security arrangements as last year, or were they a bit better organised this time?
