Just wondered if anybody has any reccommendations for Marinas in the Canary Islands, after a year in Portimao, Portugal, we are planning a trip to the Canaries in June and the idea is to leave the boat there for about a year, we are looking for a marina that is not too expensive and is within a bus ride of an airport, we don't mind which island, any ideas?

I'm also looking for more info on (affordable) marinas.

My contrib: ;)

Corralejos (Fuerteventura) is junta-run, i.e. not all that expensive and quite pretty. There's a ryanair airport 1 hour from the marina.

We spent 2 very happy years in Puerto Calero, Lanzarote. My favourite Island!

40% discount for 6 months up front, electric, water and wifi included. 15 mins from airport by cab.

Should you email them, Melanie in the office is English and will happily help with any questions.

Good and cheap lift out as well.

I always like Marina Rubicon on Lanzarote, just because of the location right next to Playa Blanca means its not dead like many other marinas. No idea how much it costs though.

Although we did not stay there on a boat we did visit the marina and spoke to a liveaboard who rated it highly. Very reasonable rates, with water and electricity. He did say there were no showers and few other liveaboards there.
But it is a good location, less than an hour from the airport with regular buses and or resort transfer services at reasonable costs. The town is a holiday resort and is open all year round. It does have the usual British bars but also a good selection of spanish and International restaurants, including some good tapas bars. Prices were very reasonable. The Marina is small but appears well protected.

When I was last there (2 years ago) they were "about to build showers" (is Spain so probably still hasn't transpired). I know of a few liveaboards, one English guy so that's probably your friend. It has a much less touristy feel than the two Lanzarote ones, which are in mall type holiday resorts. I assume the OP will visit all of these anyway, they're only a few miles apart..

Does anyone have any good marina tips for the southern islands?

Gran Tarajal

Have a look at Gran Tarajal in Fuerteventura. I stopped there eighteen months ago for a couple of nights. Good supermarket with excellent fresh fruit and veg. Sprinkling of bars and restaurants but mostly off the tourist trail so quiet. I paid Euros 7.66 per night (38 footer). Can't say what the long term cost would be. Marina quite basic when compared with Puerto Calero and Marina Rubicon on Lanzarote.

Another thought, have a look at Santa Cruz de Ternerife. The marina is well protected and is right in the City on the north of the island, well away from Playa Las Americas

We spent Christmas/New year there and used the city for stocking up before the crossing

More for the list... :)

If you are jumping on a plane for a few weeks on the boat now and again it could be a different list than if you are spening extended periods of time onboard.
.......
Las Palmas de Gran canaria could well be on the cheaper end of the spectrum, and handy chandlers for the continual boatwork. About an hour on the bus down to the airport from memory. But you get kicked out to let the Arc in, apparently.

Las Gallettas is nice, very close to Airport on south of Tenerife. Bows/stern to. Quite cheap from memory.

A ferry away from the airport but some of my fondest memories ever are from time spent on La Gomera, marina is in San Sebastian. Beautiful place. Imho.

But once you get down there it will no doubt all fall into place, lovely islands, perfect climate. Why have winter?? :)

Mmm, not a place I would recommend to leave your boat. Unless they have done some major reconstruction work to the mountains, to stop the katabatic winds and to the sea wall to limit the swell:)
Apart from that it's a delightful place.

.... but not very close to the airport (although taxis are not expensive).

.
San Sebastian on La Gomera gets my vote. Friendly, affordable, totally sheltered and a beautiful relatively unspoilt island. An hour by fast ferry from Los Christianos on Tenerife.

+1 for San Sebastian de La Gomera. Also visited La Palma (another island) recently and found two spanking new marinas with lots of spare berths - one in the capital (Santa Cruz de La Palma) and one round the other side of the island - I'll remember the name of that one in the middle of the night...
