Ok, not an ordinary Canados, in fairness. Probably the most technologically advanced of her ilk, in fact.
Btw, we just enjoyed some HOURS (!) in a roughish anchorage with stabilizers and no genset noise whatsoever - a surrealistic experience indeed! :encouragement:
But back to the point, yesterday night we had the opportunity to compare her lighting system with the one of a 20 years or so younger Sq78, with the impressive result below.
Now, it's easy to guess that the competition would have been much tougher with another Sq78, very well known here in the asylum. But still...
The gauntlet is thrown! :D

I sort of sympathize with your view P, 'cause I never had neither u/w nor deck lights on any of my boats.
Good luck in trying to convince this chap, though....

Oh dear, pink? Pimp My Ride contestant? I've never quite understood the attraction for coloured lights and seldom seen it carried off well either. Good artful lighting can really set the mood, in this case the owner is obviously after the boudoir look, I think the flybridge lighting was spot on. OEM? <My kids think I'm staid and uncool btw.>

Very much not OEM but specified and still owned by perhaps the most knowledgeable and generous forumite that I've ever met.

Well when I get my boot out my mouth I shall apologise profusely. I still dont get the pink but maybe my kids are right. :D

He can change the colours remotely and the setup is fantastic. The neon pink probably isn't the default setup lol. ;):encouragement:

Listen, Im trying to pull the boot out of my mouth. Standing on it isnt helping me here :D

Bruce, you’re drawing a lot of conclusions from a still picture.

The lights can be any colour. They don't just light up pink all the time. Nothing wrong with a boudoir when you’re in the mood for one :D. . That pic was taken after a multi boat party on boats/quai with 20-30 very merry people from all the boats and there were nice drinks, music, food and fun. There were no 40 foot Bavarias on that quay trying to sleep. I just took a still of the lights on pink, for the hell of it. Picture looks dead but that’s bcz I don’t post pics of people much on here- I don’t have their consent. Surely you’ve been to a loud nightclub etc party with music and lights? Well that is the context of this pic.

The flybridge and hardtop lights are not oem. They are installed oem but to a custom spec.

FWIW and you may still think “boudoir” but here are the lights on less loud cyan and not disturbing any neighbours who weren’t in our fleet. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=JM3qRuVEqlU. People who have never tried them sometimes think they’re pimpmyride; people who have swum in 30degrees Mediterranean at midnight in lit up water after a fabulous chef-prepared dinner think they’re in heaven. It’s worth opening your mind. (Swimming in dark is non starter for most people and worrying for the skipper).

@mapism, teehee, the squadron 78 in your pic is Gala, a totally bog standard build with no decent options, so it has the rather horrible standard deck lights made up of half a dozen blues each side, urgh. Blue angel looks good- I know they are switchable blue/white and I generally use white but for sure there will be fun evenings when you select colour just for the hell of it- as in your picture. One-all maybe?? :encouragement:

These all seem rather first world concerns :D

oh f f s somebody please put the rock back on top of my hole. JFM I'm so sorry.

My apologies, honest I did not mean to offend. I really dont like the pink, but I am sure the photo doesn't do it justice. I do love the soft white on the flybridge. The pink, just not so much. I did say colours weren't my bag and I'll confess I loathe nightclubs with a passion. I'm socially awkward that way.

Do I need to grovel some more, can I just not slink away now? :D

Amen to that.
After all, the lights (and the coincidence of a Sq78 neighbour) were just a sort of excuse for posting a pic of a very pleasant evening in a marina right in the center of a very welcoming town, which I can almost call my own by now.
But in hindsight I should have known that the lighting subject is rather divisive...
...Maybe I should have posted it in the Brexit section!

Anyway, I'm pretty sure that both jfm and Bartw have a thick enough skin to survive any sarcastic comment.
And fwiw, even if as I said I never thought of pimping my ride (so to speak :p), I did enjoy the night environment that deck lights create - also because the pic emphasizes the contrasts, while the real thing was much softer and pleasant to the eyes.

As an aside, blimey jfm, I purposedly posted a low-res pic to avoid making names and faces recognisable (hoping that you don't mind the exception of Match, for which I picked that pic just because it was already posted in the past), but obviously that wasn't enough to prevent you from spotting the other boat!
I'm tempted to ask you the name of another FL, a Sq58, which was moored in the next dock to the right, totally invisible in the pic! :D

Well Bruce if you want to atone some more you can step into my saloon and bask in the light of some of JFM's fine LED lights :encouragement:.:encouragement::cool:

Only if I can take you up on the canvas zipper repair.
I have LED. Four of them. All soft white. In the cockpit. And 127 standard incandescent bulbs dotted around the boat. Just 34 foot of it. Does my head in. Open a draw, there's a bulb just for it. Floor lights, cabin lights, wall lights. All chewing up my batteries because kids turn everything on quicker than I can turn them off and never close drawers etc. I remove the bulbs but madam just puts them back.
Oh. I bought a new anchor light to save energy. 1W LED. Its white! Superb!
