Can you recommend an insurance company please

I've used Mardon,Navigators & General , GJW, and currently with SAGA. Each seemed a good deal for the boat I had at the time.

I've ever had to make a claim (touching wood, crossing fingers, praying to all gods), so can't comment on any of them in this respect.

Certainly for anyone of advanced years, SAGA seem to offer a good deal.

Most if not all of the marine insurers will pay out the smaller claims without much of a fuss, as per the positive posts on here. It's the biggies that are the concern, and it's after the thread that's linked by Jimmy that I decided I'd change at renewal. The reason is this - my boat is worth about £80k. If the worst should happen and it sinks on berth due to a seal/bellows/skin fitting/hose failure, and is a total loss, based on JFM's insight, with my policy I'd very possibly not get a payout. £80k is quite a hit to take, so an extra £200 odd to insure with Pantaenius, or possibly YY Yachts (need to read their policy), and have peace of mind seems worthwhile to me. In the context of what I spend running the boat, £200 is neither here nor there.

Ive always recommended craftinsure. But that was before i had to claim.

This year i had to claim.

Now i recommend craftinsure. Without hesitation.

I have just bought another boat which I intend to sell again soon and insured with Craftinsure, I was surprised how little they wanted to know about the boat to give cover. No survey was requested either. GJW who I have 2 other policy's with insisted on a survey and as I needed it sorted asap this wasn't possible.

Another vote for GJW. Am insured with em but only claim against predated me covering boat with em. Boatyard dropped boat -50k damage or summink- they insured boatyard and were fair to deal with ,yard repaired boat well GJW paid up. Cos I wanted my insurers in the frame (if fell out with GJW- no privity of contract with yards insurer) I asked boats insurer to confirm cover-- "oh well we need to know how much before we say if you are covered" silly me thinking that if liable insurers should stand ready to pay up to indemnity limit- told `em I would issue that day for a declaration = "ah ok of course you are covered" I was not even intimating the claim against them. Result insured thereafter with GJW (13 years or so now).

Out of interest ,those that have claimed, did your premium the following years increase by much?

I ask because I have a claim in progress, just wondering If I'm looking at increased premiums next year

I used to have craftinsure and they were always good at communication. However, I've not in advancing years but merely coming in to my prime (ahem) but saga seem to offer a huge amount for the money. Most of the 'extras' from other companies are standard with saga although I've never had to claim on either saga or craft insure. Just about to change the boat and have sent them an email with the details of the new boat so ill feedback any negative customer service if any.

+1 for GJW.

I had to claim once and had excellent service. I don't think premium went up the following year, if it did, it wasn't noticeable.

Never had to claim off anyone else, so I can't comment.
