Having got the inner forestay set-up for the storm sail this year and having tried out once in moderately testing conditions, I would like to change the colour of the storm sail from dirty off-white to the brightest of dayglo orange, so it can be seen from a distance.

Any idea if you can paint a storm sail or should I be considering dying ?
If it's a feasible idea which paint/dye would you use ?
How long would it last or should I go to plan 'B' And get a big inner orange triangle stiched in ?

Thanks in advance, Cheers.

The subject of dyes for terylene/dacron has been explored on this forum before, and the conclusion seemed to be that no dye will stay on the fibres of a finished sail, and certainly not pentrate them: colour has to be added to sailcloth during manufacture.
If there is a mildew that comes in 'dayglo' orange, you could try cultivating that: it is the only stuff I've ever come across that sticks through storm-force winds, washing and scrubbing.

Try rust or blood /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif They seem to stay on regardless of what you use to clean them off with.
