Can you extend the lead on a thermometer?

Quick update, as above, it works fine.
Extended the wires on 1 thermometer, and left 3 as controls.
Ambient temperatures were all showing similar, then dropped the probes into a cup of water at around 70degC
The temperature variation across all 4 thermometers was well under 1 deg C, with the worst culprit being one of the uncut ones.
I didn't go as far as plotting RSD values across a range of temperatures ;) but suffice to say they will serve my needs of giving warning of temperature changes on the exhausts.

Good news.

I've been meaning to do this for some time, but not sure of a reliable way of mounting the probe; I really don't want to pierce the hose.

I'm just going to wrap the probe to the outside of the hose with electrical tape, I don't want to pierce it either.
I appreciate there will be a delay in the temperature rising doing it that way, but I imagine it will still heat up fairly rapidly with reduced water input and is better than the nothing I currently have in place!
Other risk is that the tape could melt and just come off, but either way I'm going to see a large temperature change and can investigate.
I can report back with how effective it is if of any interest?

I had the same issue with not wanting to pierce my exhaust hose so I mounted, in my case a bimetal switch on my exhaust elbow just before the injection point on the metal part of the elbow.
